This CITB Leadership & Management course in Understanding the Recruitment and Selection of New Staff in Construction was developed by the construction specialists Acadame.

Delivered at our centre in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, virtually online or on-site; the purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop the knowledge and understanding of recruitment and induction as required by practising or potential site supervisors, managers or leaders:

  • identifying shortfalls in employees, their knowledge, skills, and competence
  • the recruitment and selection process

It is recommended that this training standard is delivered in conjunction with Understanding the induction and onboarding of new staff in construction.

Leadership and management are key skills for all construction sites and an area where the industry has identified a need for greater support and training.

Assessment

How someone is measured

The method of formal assessment for this standard is by a paper of 9 questions based on one question per assessment criteria point.

Delegates must achieve 75% correct answers to pass.

Where assessment criteria requires delegates to “evaluate”, this will be assessed by including scenario-based exercises where the delegate must demonstrate competence of the assessment criteria.

This classroom or virtually delivered course is held over half a day.

Assessment of this learning outcome must cover the delegates ability to:

    • describe how to review work requirements in your area of responsibility
    • describe and evaluate the options for addressing shortfalls in employees, their knowledge, skills and competence
    • describe the methods for producing and reviewing job descriptions and role profiles

Identify an effective recruitment and selection process in accordance with organisational procedures for the required roles

Assessment of this learning outcome must cover the delegates ability to:

    • evaluate different methods of recruitment and describe the associated advantages and disadvantages
    • explain criteria for assessing and selecting applicants in a fair and inclusive way
    • explain the organisational process for interviewing applicants
    • describe the methods of informing applicants about the progress of their applications and how to provide feedback for unsuccessful applicants
    • evaluate different methods of selection and describe the associated advantages and disadvantages
    • explain how the recruitment and selection process could be evaluated
