Who it is for

Who this driver safety course is for

Anyone who drives on business is at work while they do it. That includes company car drivers, van drivers, and staff using their own car for work journeys: the grey fleet most employers forget about entirely.

  • Company car and van drivers
  • Sales and service staff who drive between sites
  • Employees using their own vehicles for work journeys
  • Fleet managers and transport supervisors
  • Delivery and courier drivers
  • Anyone responsible for a driving-at-work policy

Your legal duty

The law behind driver safety training

Driving for work sits inside health and safety law. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 requires employers to ensure the health and safety of employees at work so far as is reasonably practicable, and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require the risks to be assessed, including the risks of work-related road journeys.

Road traffic law applies alongside it rather than instead of it. The Road Traffic Act 1988 governs the driving itself; the health and safety duties govern how the employer plans, schedules and equips the work that produces the journey.

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 - sections 2 and 3
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 - risk assessment
  • Road Traffic Act 1988 - the driving itself
  • Grey fleet journeys in an employee's own car are still work journeys

For employers

Driver Safety training for a team

Grey fleet is where most employers are exposed, because those drivers are rarely inducted at all. An account lets you cover everyone who drives on business.

  • One invoice instead of a card payment per person
  • Licences allocated as people join, so induction is covered
  • Completion and expiry reporting for your records
  • Renewal reminders before certificates lapse
  • Bespoke versions built around your own procedures

Driver Safety eLearning: common questions

Yes. Employees driving on business are at work, so the general duties and the requirement to assess risk apply. Road traffic law applies alongside it.

Employees using their own vehicles for work journeys. Those journeys are still work, and the employer still has duties: checking licence, insurance and roadworthiness.

No. This is general driver safety awareness. Drivers of large goods and passenger vehicles have their own regulated training requirements.

A proportionate check is what matters. The course covers what's relevant for the vehicle type, and why defect reporting is the part that gets skipped.

About 30 to 45 minutes, with no time limit. Start it, pause it, and come back whenever suits. The certificate is issued as soon as you pass the end assessment.

Yes. It runs in a browser on any modern phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install.

Yes. Open a business account and we invoice you for the licences, which you allocate as people need them, with completion reporting included.
