The NPORS N702 Confined Spaces – High Risk qualification is designed to equip operatives with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for safe entry, work, and exit in high-risk confined spaces. The course covers critical areas such as hazard identification, gas detection, use of breathing apparatus, working at height, and emergency procedures. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Confined Space Regulations, ensuring compliance and promoting a culture of safety. Suitable for both individuals and teams, this training ensures operatives can perform their duties competently and safely in challenging environments.
Understand the construction industry, associated hazards, and the responsibilities of a confined space operative.
Gain knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and relevant regulations and legislation.
Identify and explain the functions of major components and key controls used in confined space operations.
Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
Select and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for confined space entry and work.
Prepare for and carry out safe entry and exit procedures in high-risk confined spaces.
Operate gas detection equipment to monitor hazardous atmospheres effectively.
Utilise emergency escape breathing apparatus and self-contained breathing apparatus appropriately.
Implement safe working practices when operating at height, including the use of harnesses, tripods, and winches.
Establish and maintain effective communication procedures and manning levels during confined space operations.
Carry out all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures in compliance with industry standards.
The method of assessment is a three-step journey:
A written assessment covering regulations and operational safety.
Candidates will demonstrate the safe practice, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.
Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
