What you would be assessing

The ProQual Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Fire Safety Design and Building Risk Management, Ofqual number 610/health-and-safety-training-courses/nebosh-courses/nebosh-national-certificate-protecting-enhanced-duty-premises-events-terrorism/7431/health-and-safety-training-courses/nebosh-courses/nebosh-national-certificate-protecting-enhanced-duty-premises-events-terrorism/7. It is a competence based qualification, so the work is assessing portfolios of real projects: fire strategy and design, external wall systems, compartmentation, and building risk management under the Building Safety Act.

Candidates are fire engineers and building safety professionals doing the work already. You are measuring what they do against the standard, not teaching them the subject.

What you need to hold

ProQual are explicit about this one, and there is no room to interpret it. Assessors must hold both of the following, not one or the other.

• MIFireE, membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers at Member grade or above
• CMIOSH, Chartered Member of IOSH
• A minimum of ten years in an engineering industry
• An assessing qualification: the Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment, the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Achievement, the Level 3 Certificate in Teaching, Training and Assessment, or the Level 3 Award in Education and Training

If you do not currently hold one of the memberships, ProQual allow a centre to evidence an equivalent and verifiable track record of professional recognition instead. That evidence has to stand up to internal and external quality assurance, so tell us exactly what you have and we will tell you honestly whether it will hold.

How the work comes

Candidate by candidate rather than as a block. We register a candidate, agree the assessment plan with you, and you work through their portfolio at a pace that suits the project they are evidencing. Most of it is remote, with site visits where the evidence needs seeing in place.

You are paid per candidate, agreed before you take them on, so you know what a candidate is worth before you start rather than after.

What we will ask you for

Nothing unusual, but we do check all of it before you assess a single candidate. We are an ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified centre and ProQual audit us on exactly this.

• Proof of current IFE and IOSH membership at the grades above
• Your assessing qualification certificate
• A CV showing the ten years in an engineering industry
• Two references
• Right to work in the UK
• Public liability and professional indemnity cover if you are self employed

Who this suits

A chartered fire engineer who is already a Chartered Member of IOSH and wants assessing work alongside consultancy. That combination is rare, which is why this is its own role rather than part of our general construction assessing.
