Electrical Safety eLearning
Online electrical safety awareness for non-electricians: recognising damaged equipment, understanding why you must not work live, and knowing exactly where your limit is.
Who it is for
Who this electrical safety course is for
Most electrical injuries at work happen to people who are not electricians: someone using a damaged lead, working near a buried cable, or opening a panel they should not have opened. This course is for them.
- All staff, as part of induction or refresher training
- Maintenance, caretaking and facilities teams
- Construction and site operatives
- Office and retail staff using electrical equipment
- Supervisors responsible for equipment checks
- Anyone who might find damaged electrical equipment
Course content
What the electrical safety course covers
Five short lessons covering how electricity injures, common causes, user checks and inspection, working near services, and isolation and your limit, then a 12-question assessment.
How electricity injures
Shock, burns, arc flash and fire, and why mains voltage can kill.
Common causes at work
Damaged leads, overloaded sockets, wet conditions and DIY repairs.
User checks and inspection
Visual user checks before use, formal inspection and testing, and why PAT is risk-based, not annual by law.
Working near services
Buried cables, overhead lines, cable avoidance tools and permits.
Isolation and your limit
Why live working is not for non-electricians, who may isolate, RCDs and reporting.
Outcomes
What you will be able to do afterwards
- Explain how electricity injures and why mains voltage can kill
- Recognise common causes of electrical accidents at work
- Carry out user checks and understand inspection and testing
- Work safely near buried and overhead services
- Know your limit, and leave isolation and repair to competent people
Your legal duty
The law behind electrical safety training
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require electrical systems to be constructed and maintained so as to prevent danger, and require work on or near a system to be carried out so as to prevent injury. Anyone working on electrical systems must have the technical knowledge or experience, or be adequately supervised.
Live working is permitted only in narrow circumstances where it is unreasonable to work dead, suitable precautions are taken and it is reasonable in all the circumstances. For a non-electrician, the practical answer is that live working is never their job.
- Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 - sections 2 and 3
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 - electrical work equipment
- Competence, or adequate supervision, is required for work on electrical systems
Practicalities
How the course works
Would you rather have a tutor?
High-voltage vehicle systems carry their own specific risks.
For employers
Electrical Safety training for a team
Most workplaces need everyone to spot a damaged lead, and a small number of properly qualified people to do anything about the system itself.
- One invoice instead of a card payment per person
- Licences allocated as people join, so induction is covered
- Completion and expiry reporting for your records
- Renewal reminders before certificates lapse
- Bespoke versions built around your own procedures
Electrical Safety eLearning: common questions
No. It is awareness for non-electricians. Work on electrical systems requires technical knowledge and experience, or adequate supervision, under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
No. Ordinary 230V mains kills people every year. The course is explicit that low voltage is not the same as safe.
No fixed interval is set in law. The requirement is to maintain equipment so as to prevent danger; the frequency and type of inspection should follow the risk. The course explains how that judgement works.
Take it out of service immediately, label it so nobody else uses it, and report it. The course covers this because putting it back in the drawer is the most common response.
About 30 to 45 minutes, with no time limit. Start it, pause it, and come back whenever suits. The certificate is issued as soon as you pass the end assessment.
Yes. It runs in a browser on any modern phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install.
Yes. Open a business account and we invoice you for the licences, which you allocate as people need them, with completion reporting included.
