Environmental Awareness eLearning
Online environmental awareness training that shows staff where their work touches the environment: waste, water, emissions, spills: and what to do about it on a normal working day.
Who it is for
Who this environmental awareness course is for
Environmental awareness is increasingly asked for in tenders, pre-qualification questionnaires and ISO 14001 audits: and the questions land on ordinary staff, not only the environmental manager.
- All staff, as part of induction or annual refresher training
- Site and operations teams handling waste and materials
- Drivers, plant operators and yard staff
- Facilities and maintenance teams
- Anyone working towards or audited against ISO 14001
- Businesses answering environmental questions in tenders and PQQs
Course content
What the environmental awareness course covers
Five short lessons covering why it matters, the regulatory picture, waste and the waste hierarchy, water, land, air and resources, and incidents and ISO 14001, then a 12-question assessment.
Why it matters at work
Where everyday work touches the environment, and why it matters to the organisation.
The regulatory picture
The waste duty of care, permits, the four regulators, and digital waste tracking.
Waste and the waste hierarchy
Prevent, reuse, recycle, recover, dispose, and separating waste at work.
Water, land, air and resources
Drains, spills, emissions, and energy and water use.
Incidents, ISO 14001 and the close
Reporting a spill or release, and how awareness supports ISO 14001.
Outcomes
What you will be able to do afterwards
- Recognise where everyday work affects the environment
- Describe the regulators and the waste duty of care
- Apply the waste hierarchy and separate waste correctly
- Protect water, land and air, and use resources efficiently
- Report environmental incidents and explain how awareness supports ISO 14001
Your legal duty
The law behind environmental awareness training
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 sits behind much of the UK's waste and pollution control regime, including the duty of care that applies to anyone who produces, handles or disposes of controlled waste. Other duties sit in separate regimes covering permits, discharges and specific waste streams.
Unlike health and safety, there is no single regulation requiring environmental awareness training by name. It is required in practice by ISO 14001, which expects an organisation to ensure people are aware of the environmental policy, their impacts and their responsibilities, and by clients who ask for evidence in tenders.
- Environmental Protection Act 1990 - including duty of care for waste
- ISO 14001 - awareness and competence requirements for an environmental management system
- Separate regimes cover permits, discharges to water, and specific waste streams
Practicalities
How the course works
Would you rather have a tutor?
Acadame is certified to ISO 14001 through a UKAS-accredited body, so this is a system we run as well as teach.
For employers
Environmental awareness across a workforce
Auditors and clients ask for evidence that staff have been made aware. An account gives you one invoice and a completion record you can produce on request.
- One invoice instead of a card payment per person
- Licences allocated as people join, so induction is covered
- Completion and expiry reporting for ISO 14001 audits and tender responses
- Renewal reminders before certificates lapse
- Bespoke versions built around your own aspects, impacts and procedures
Environmental Awareness eLearning: common questions
Not by name, unlike much health and safety training. It is required in practice by ISO 14001, and increasingly by clients who ask for evidence of it in tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires.
Yes. ISO 14001 expects the organisation to make people aware of the environmental policy, the significant impacts of their work and their own responsibilities. This course covers that awareness element and gives you a dated record for each person.
A legal responsibility on anyone who produces, handles, stores or disposes of controlled waste to make sure it is dealt with properly and passed only to authorised people. The course explains what that means for staff.
Only where it is relevant. The course is about the environmental impact of the work your people actually do: waste, spills, discharges, energy and materials: rather than global policy.
About 30 to 45 minutes, with no time limit. The certificate is issued as soon as you pass the end assessment.
Yes. Open a business account and we invoice you for the licences, which you allocate as people join, with completion reporting included.
Yes. It runs in a browser on any modern phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install.
