- Remote and lone workers, and those who manage them
- Shift workers and their supervisors
- Anyone who wants to support a colleague better
Course content
What the mental health and wellbeing course covers
Five short lessons covering mental health at work, stigma and the signs, starting a conversation, workplace factors, and getting help, then a 12-question assessment.

What mental health means, how common mental health problems are, and why they matter at work.
Stigma and recognising the signs
Why people stay quiet about mental health, and the changes that might suggest someone is struggling.
Starting the conversation
How to start a supportive conversation, listen properly, and respond helpfully without trying to fix everything.
Workplace factors
How work affects mental health, HSE's Management Standards, and the employer's duty to assess work-related stress.

Your legal duty
The law behind mental health and wellbeing training
There is no regulation requiring mental health training by name. The duties that apply are the general ones. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 requires employers to ensure health, safety and welfare so far as is reasonably practicable, and health includes mental health. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require risks to be assessed, including work-related stress.
Separately, a mental health condition may amount to a disability under the Equality Act 2010, which brings the duty to make reasonable adjustments into play. This course is awareness training and does not attempt to advise on individual cases.
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 - health includes mental health
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 - assessing work-related stress
- Equality Act 2010 - where a condition amounts to a disability
- This is awareness training, not clinical or therapeutic training.
Practicalities
How the course works

Work-related stress has its own course covering the causes employers can control.
For employers
Mental Health and Wellbeing training for a team
Wellbeing training lands better when a whole team has done it, because the barrier is rarely knowledge. It is whether it feels normal to say something.
- One invoice instead of a card payment per person
- Licences allocated as people join, so induction is covered
- Completion and expiry reporting for your records
- Renewal reminders before certificates lapse
- Bespoke versions built around your own procedures
Mental Health and Wellbeing eLearning: common questions

The course covers this: listen, do not promise confidentiality you cannot keep, and signpost to proper support. You are not expected to handle it alone.
It covers the workplace factors managers control: workload, support, control and change. A manager with formal responsibility may want deeper training as well.
About 30 to 45 minutes, with no time limit. Start it, pause it, and come back whenever suits. The certificate is issued as soon as you pass the end assessment.
