If it is used at work, yes. PUWER requires operators of work equipment to be adequately trained, and most principal contractors and insurers will ask for a card before a machine goes on site whatever its size. A micro digger is not a garden tool once it is on a job.

The NPORS novice duration for this category is ten days. Experienced operators sit a shorter test focused route and a refresher is shorter again. The exact length also depends on how many are being trained, so we confirm it when we quote.

We can train where the work happens, which often means a confined or enclosed space. There are extra controls for that, particularly exhaust fumes, noise, dust and keeping other people out of the area, and we cover them as part of the course.

The category covers operating the machine, and attachment changing and safe use are part of the training. Where a specific attachment has its own NPORS category, that is a separate ticket, and we will tell you plainly which applies to your kit.

Yes, and on this category it usually works best. Small machines are easy to train on in situ and the operator learns in the access and the ground they really face. There are no scheduled dates: we run it when your people and the machine can be released.

What you are paying for is the instructor, the registered tester and the machine time, so the figure turns on four things: the category, which route your operators need (novice, experienced, conversion or refresher), how many people are coming, and whether we run it on your site or at one of ours. It is also why a squad works out considerably cheaper per head than sending operators out one at a time. We run NPORS courses across the UK rather than out of one fixed centre, and for most categories the better answer is that we come to you: your operators are assessed on the machine they will be using anyway, nobody loses a day travelling, and for a group it costs less. There is no fixed timetable to wait for. NPORS courses here are run to order, which means the dates are built around your programme rather than ours, and a single operator or a full squad can normally be booked in within a couple of weeks.
