CITB SSSTS Refresher in Derby
One day at our Derby centre to renew an SSSTS certificate for a further five years, while the current one is still in date.
About this course
One day rather than two, and only available while your existing SSSTS certificate is live. Once it has expired you are back on the full course, which is a day longer and considerably more annoying.
The day covers the supervisor’s responsibilities, risk assessments and method statements, toolbox talks and monitoring, plus what has changed in legislation and guidance since you last sat it.
Derby and east Midlands contractors usually book a handful of supervisors together so the renewal dates stay aligned.
The centre is Pride Park, Pride Park, Derby DE24. Pride Park is immediately off the A52 and close to the A6 and the A50, and Derby station is walkable from the centre.
We draw candidates from Burton upon Trent, Nottingham, Loughborough, Ashbourne, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Belper and the wider Derbyshire and east Midlands area. If a date at Derby does not suit, the same course runs at our other centres and we can deliver it at your own premises anywhere in the UK.

Entry requirements. Delegates must have previously completed the two day SSSTS course. Sit the refresher before your certificate expires, otherwise the full course must be taken again.

What to expect on the day
The course is the same wherever you sit it. What changes is the room, the journey and the people in it, and those matter more than providers usually admit.
Our Derby centre is Pride Park, Pride Park, Derby DE24. Pride Park is immediately off the A52 and close to the A6 and the A50, and Derby station is walkable from the centre. Joining instructions go out ahead of the course with timings, what to bring and where to go when you arrive.
If you are booking for a group and travel is the problem, we deliver this course at employers’ own premises anywhere in the country. For six or more people that is usually cheaper per head and nobody loses a day on the road.
Before the day
Joining instructions with timings, the address and what to bring. Tell us at booking if anybody needs support with reading, writing or access and we will sort it quietly.
On the day
Arrive a few minutes early. Bring photographic identification, which most awarding bodies require before they will certificate you.
Afterwards
We tell you the outcome and handle the registration and certification with the awarding body. If anything needs resitting we will get it booked.
Method of assessment
How SSSTS Refresher is assessed
There is an assessment. CITB set it for every Site Safety Plus course and it is taken during or at the end of the course.
Take part in full
CITB require full attendance across the 1 day before the assessment can be taken.
Assessment
CITB standard GET2769. An exam paper at the end of the course, compulsory, 25 questions selected by CITB covering all aspects of the course. The pass mark is 80 per cent.
Certificate
A CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years. Renew before it expires or the full course has to be taken again. CITB grant Grant Tier 2 Refresher, 7.5 learning hours, standard GET2769.

SSSTS Refresher FAQs
You need the full two day SSSTS. The refresher only works while the existing certificate is in date, and there is no discretion on it.
No. SSSTS is a two day course with a five year certificate that a principal contractor checks at the gate. A Level 3 or 4 NVQ in site supervision is a vocational qualification leading to a Gold Supervisor card. A good many supervisors hold both.
Usually, for registered employers up to date with their Levy Returns. We submit the claim for you and will tell you the current rate.
