CITB SSSTS Refresher Course
One day to renew an SSSTS that is still in date, instead of sitting the full two days again.
About this course
This one day course is for existing site supervisors.
The first section refreshes the essential knowledge covered in the full course, with a focus on the latest information relating to risk assessment in the workplace, implementation of necessary control measures, and adequate communication.
The second section applies that knowledge to real life scenarios, so delegates discuss how they would respond and share relevant experience.

Who should attend?
For those who have previously passed the SSSTS course, or a previous refresher.
Entry requirements. Delegates must have previously completed the two day SSSTS course. Sit the refresher before your certificate expires, otherwise the full course must be taken again.

Cards and qualifications
SSSTS Refresher, and where the gold CSCS Supervisor card comes from
The refresher keeps your SSSTS certificate running for another five years. Like the original, it is a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate and not a CSCS card.
If you have been supervising for years on the strength of SSSTS alone, the card is usually the gap. The gold Supervisor card comes from a construction related supervisory or technical NVQ at Level 3 or 4, plus a pass in the CITB Specialist Supervisor health, safety and environment test.
A supervisory NVQ is assessed on the job, so the years you have already put in are the evidence rather than a reason to start over.
Refresh before it lapses
One day, and it has to be taken before the five years are up. Once the certificate has expired the full two day SSSTS has to be taken again.
Use the experience you already have
A Level 3 or 4 supervisory NVQ is assessed around your normal work. No exams, no day release, and your assessor comes to you.
Specialist test, then the card
Pass the CITB Specialist Supervisor health, safety and environment test and apply to CSCS. The gold Supervisor card runs for five years.

How SSSTS Refresher is assessed
There is an assessment. CITB set it for every Site Safety Plus course and it is taken during or at the end of the course.
Take part in full
CITB require full attendance across the 1 day before the assessment can be taken.
Assessment
CITB standard GET2769. An exam paper at the end of the course, compulsory, 25 questions selected by CITB covering all aspects of the course. The pass mark is 80 per cent.
Certificate
A CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years. Renew before it expires or the full course has to be taken again. CITB grant Grant Tier 2 Refresher, 7.5 learning hours, standard GET2769.

SSSTS Refresher FAQs
No. It renews a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate for another five years. The gold Supervisor card is a separate thing, issued against a supervisory or technical NVQ at Level 3 or 4 plus the CITB Specialist Supervisor test.
The refresher can only be used before the certificate expires. Once it has lapsed the full two day SSSTS has to be taken again, so it is worth booking the refresher with a few weeks to spare.
No. A supervisory NVQ is assessed on evidence from the work you already do, so long experience usually shortens it rather than lengthening it. The initial assessment tells you where you stand before you commit.
