ELCAS Funding for NEBOSH, IOSH and NVQs
Acadame is an ELCAS approved provider. Service leavers and veterans can put Enhanced Learning Credits towards our Level 3 and above qualifications, which in practice means NEBOSH and the higher NVQs.
How it works
Four steps, and the order matters
1. Check you are eligible
Eligibility turns on your qualifying service and when you left. The scheme has a lower and a higher tier with different service requirements, and the window to claim after discharge depends on your leaving date.
2. Pick a qualification at Level 3 or above
ELC only funds learning at Level 3 or above. That rules out awareness courses and most short courses, and it is why NEBOSH and the higher NVQs are where service leavers end up.
3. Get your Claim Authorisation Note
You apply through ELCAS with our provider number and the course details. ELCAS issue a Claim Authorisation Note, and that has to be in place before the course begins.
4. Book and train
Send us the CAN and we handle the rest with ELCAS. You pay your personal contribution; we invoice ELCAS for the balance.

The rules that catch people out
Three things trip service leavers up. The first is the claim window: if you left on or after 1 April 2016 you have five years from your last day of service, and if you left before that you have ten. The course has to start before that date, not merely be booked before it.
The second is the level. Enhanced Learning Credits fund learning at Level 3 or above. A one day awareness course is not eligible however useful it is, which is why we point people at NEBOSH or a Level 3 or higher NVQ.
The third is the personal contribution. ELC is not a blank cheque: you fund a share of the course cost yourself. The tiers and the caps are set by the MOD and they change, so check the current position with ELCAS rather than working from any provider’s web page, including ours.

The skills transfer better than people expect
Risk assessment, planning, briefing people, investigating what went wrong and holding a standard when it would be easier not to: that is most of a health and safety role, and it is most of what service life teaches.
What is missing is usually the civilian legal framework and the paperwork, which is precisely what a NEBOSH certificate supplies. It is a well worn route out of service and we see a lot of people take it.

Yes. We are ELCAS approved for qualifications at Level 3 and above, which in practice means the NEBOSH range and the higher level NVQs. Awareness courses and most short courses sit below the level ELC funds.

No, and this is the mistake we see most. The Claim Authorisation Note has to be issued before the course starts. Talk to us early and we will make sure the paperwork runs ahead of the booking rather than behind it.
The Diploma is above Level 3 so it meets the level requirement, and people do use ELC towards it. Given the claim limits it is worth planning the sequence, and we can talk that through with you.
