Fire Safety eLearning
Online fire safety training that covers how fire starts and spreads, what the alarm means, how evacuation works, and why the fire risk assessment is the document everything else hangs on.
Who it is for
Who this fire safety course is for
Fire safety training is one of the few things almost every workplace in the country needs, for almost everyone in it. This course is the general awareness level, the version everybody should hold, before anyone takes on a warden role.
- All staff, as part of induction or annual refresher training
- Office, retail, hospitality and warehouse teams
- Care, education and healthcare staff
- Contractors and agency workers on your premises
- Managers responsible for evacuation arrangements
- Anyone about to take on a fire warden role, as a starting point
Course content
What the fire safety course covers
Five short lessons covering how fire starts and spreads, preventing it, what to do when the alarm sounds, extinguishers and when to walk away, and the fire risk assessment, then a 12-question assessment.
How fire starts and spreads
The fire triangle, how fire spreads through a building, and why smoke kills more people than flames.
Preventing fire at work
The common causes of workplace fires, from electrics to arson, and the everyday habits that stop them.
When the alarm sounds
Raising the alarm, leaving by the right route, using fire doors properly, and getting to the assembly point.
Extinguishers, and when to walk away
The classes of fire, the extinguisher types and colour bands, and the rules for deciding whether to fight a fire or leave.
The fire risk assessment
What the fire risk assessment is for, who is responsible for it, and how your everyday actions keep it valid.

Your legal duty
The law behind fire safety training
In England and Wales the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places duties on the responsible person for most non-domestic premises. They must carry out a fire risk assessment, put general fire precautions in place, and provide employees with adequate fire safety training.
Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own fire safety legislation rather than the 2005 Order. The duties are broadly comparable, but if your premises are outside England and Wales, check which regime applies to you.
- Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 - England and Wales
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 - the general duties
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 - emergency procedures
- Scotland and Northern Ireland are covered by their own fire safety legislation
Practicalities
How the course works
Would you rather have a tutor?
Nominated fire wardens and marshals need more than general awareness.
For employers
Fire safety training for everyone on site
Fire safety is the training a fire officer is most likely to ask about, for the largest number of people. An account gives you one invoice and a record for each of them.
- One invoice instead of a card payment per person
- Licences allocated as people join, so induction is covered
- Completion and expiry reporting to evidence training if asked
- Renewal reminders before certificates lapse
- Bespoke versions carrying your own layout, alarm and assembly points
Fire Safety eLearning: common questions
In England and Wales, yes. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to provide employees with adequate fire safety training. Scotland and Northern Ireland have equivalent duties under their own legislation.
Annually is the interval most organisations set, and it is what fire officers generally expect to see. The certificate itself is valid for three years.
No. This is general fire awareness for everyone. A nominated fire warden or marshal needs the separate warden course, which covers sweeping areas, roll call and reporting.
It covers the classes of fire, which extinguisher matches which, and more importantly, how to judge when not to fight a fire at all. Practical extinguisher use has to be done hands-on.
No. The assessment is specific to your premises and is the responsible person's duty. The course explains what it is for and why it drives everything else.
About 30 to 45 minutes, with no time limit. The certificate is issued as soon as you pass the end assessment.
Yes. Open a business account and we invoice you for the licences, which you allocate as people join, with completion reporting included.
