  1. Question 1 of 5Assessing risks

The main purpose of recording the significant findings of a risk assessment is to:

    Show the answer

Answer C: Show what hazards were found and what controls were decided

Recording significant findings captures the hazards, who is at risk and the controls. It is evidence and a basis for review.

  2. Question 2 of 5Controlling risks

Why must controls be monitored after they are introduced?

    Show the answer

Answer B: They can fail, be removed or be bypassed over time

A control is only useful while it works. Monitoring catches guards that are removed, procedures that slip and PPE that is not worn.

  3. Question 3 of 5Understanding responsibilities

The true cost of an accident to a business is often compared to an iceberg because:

    Show the answer

Answer B: The hidden uninsured costs are far larger than the visible insured ones

Insured costs are the visible tip. Uninsured costs such as lost time, damage, investigation and reputation are the much larger hidden part.

  4. Question 4 of 5Understanding hazards

Which group of hazards does extreme heat or cold belong to?

    Show the answer

    Answer B: Physical hazards

Temperature extremes are physical hazards, alongside noise, vibration and radiation. They can cause heat stress or cold related illness.

  5. Question 5 of 5Investigating incidents

Why is it worth investigating accidents and near misses?

    Show the answer

Answer A: To find the causes and stop them happening again

The purpose is prevention. Finding the real causes lets you fix them, as well as meeting legal duties and controlling cost.
