Articulated Forklift Truck Operations eLearning
Online articulated forklift awareness covering how an articulated truck behaves differently from a counterbalance, and the aisle, load and pedestrian risks that come with it.
Who it is for
Who this articulated forklift truck operations course is for
Articulated trucks work in narrower aisles and turn differently from a counterbalance truck. Operators moving between the two are where most incidents come from, and so are the pedestrians who do not expect the turning circle.
- Warehouse and distribution operatives
- Supervisors managing narrow-aisle operations
- Pedestrians and pickers working around trucks
- Transport and logistics managers
- Health and safety representatives in warehousing
- Anyone planning racking and aisle layouts
Course content
What the articulated forklift truck operations course covers
Six short modules on how the truck behaves, what destabilises it, and how people and trucks are kept apart.
How an articulated truck differs
Articulation, turning behaviour and narrow-aisle working compared with a counterbalance.
Stability and the load
Centre of gravity, load weight and height, and what tips a truck over.
Pre-use checks
The daily checks an operator must carry out and how to report defects.
Operating safely
Travelling, turning, load handling and visibility.
Pedestrians and segregation
Keeping people and trucks apart, and why pedestrians misjudge articulated trucks.
Refuelling, charging and parking
Battery charging, fuel handling and leaving a truck safely.
Outcomes
What you will be able to do afterwards
- Explain how an articulated truck behaves differently from a counterbalance
- Recognise what affects stability and causes overturns
- Carry out a pre-use check and report defects
- Operate and park a truck safely in a narrow aisle
- Apply pedestrian segregation rules
- Handle charging, refuelling and shutdown safely
Your legal duty
The law behind articulated forklift truck operations training
Lift trucks are work equipment, so the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 apply: the truck must be suitable, maintained, inspected, and used only by people who have had adequate training. Where the truck lifts loads, the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 apply as well.
Awareness training is not operator certification. Operating a lift truck requires proper basic training, specific job training and familiarisation, assessed in person. This course supports that. It does not substitute for it.
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)
- Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
- Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 - sections 2 and 3
- Operator certification requires practical training and assessment, not awareness training.

How the course works
For employers
Articulated Forklift Truck Operations training for a team
Pedestrian awareness matters as much as operator training in a warehouse. Most serious incidents involve someone on foot.
- One invoice instead of a card payment per person
- Licences allocated as people join, so induction is covered.
- Completion and expiry reporting for your records
- Renewal reminders before certificates lapse
- Bespoke versions built around your own procedures

Articulated Forklift Truck Operations eLearning: common questions
No. Operator certification requires basic training, specific job training and familiarisation, all assessed in person. This is awareness training that supports it.
They articulate rather than steer like a counterbalance, work in much narrower aisles, and behave differently under load. Operators moving between truck types are a common source of incidents.
Very. Most serious warehouse incidents involve someone on foot who misjudged a truck's movement, and pedestrians are rarely trained at all.
A pre-use check every shift, with defects reported and the truck taken out of use if unsafe. The course covers what the check involves.
About 30 minutes, with no time limit. Start it, pause it, and come back whenever suits. The certificate is issued the moment you finish.
