About this course

This one day refresher is for people who already hold a Temporary Works Co-ordinator certificate and need to keep it current. It is for the same role as the full course: anyone with responsibility for managing temporary works on site.

CITB expect the same underpinning knowledge from a refresher delegate as from someone on the full two day course, so it moves at pace. What it adds is what has changed, in legislation, in guidance and in current industry practice.

It is built on BS 5975 in the same way the full course is, and it can be taken in a classroom or live online.

  • The health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation that affects the work day to day, and how to apply it
  • New guidance and current industry best practice since you last sat the course
  • Your duties and responsibilities as a temporary works co-ordinator, stated plainly
  • Where BS 5975 has moved on, and what that means for the documents you sign

How completing this course helps you

  • Keep a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate running for another five years
  • Spend one day on it rather than repeating the full two
  • Stay current on guidance that has changed since you last sat it
  • Claim CITB grant on it if you pay the levy

Who should attend?

For anyone who already holds a Temporary Works Co-ordinator certificate and manages temporary works on site.

Entry requirements. You must have completed the full TWCTC, or a previous TWCTC refresher, within the last five years, and be able to show proof of attendance. Let the certificate expire and the full two day course has to be taken again.

Competence and cards

The refresher, the deadline, and what it does not do

This renews a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate. It does not award a CSCS card, and no Site Safety Plus course does. Sites ask for the temporary works certificate alongside whatever card matches the role.

The deadline is the thing to watch. CITB will only accept you onto the refresher if your TWCTC or your last refresher was within the last five years, and you can prove it. Miss that and it is the full two day course again.

CITB also treat attendance and competence as different things. Competence is education, training and experience together, judged by the designated individual on the project. The refresher keeps the training half current.

1

Check your date first

Find your existing certificate before you book. CITB need proof that the full course, or your last refresher, was inside five years.

2

Sit the one day refresher

Classroom or live online. Full attendance across the day, then the CITB assessment.

3

Five more years

A new Site Safety Plus certificate valid for five years, and you can refresh again from there rather than repeating the full course.

Method of assessment

How the Temporary Works Co-ordinator Refresher is assessed

CITB set the assessment for every Site Safety Plus course, and it is taken at the end of the day.

1

Take part in full

CITB require full attendance across the day before the assessment can be taken.

2

Sit the assessment

The CITB standard behind this course, GET3379, runs to 7 hours and 45 minutes including delivery and the examination. Ask us for the current format before you book if it matters to you.

3

Certificate

A CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years from the refresher. Renew again before that runs out and you never go back to the full two days.

Temporary Works Co-ordinator Refresher (TWCTC-R) FAQs

Five years from your last Temporary Works Co-ordinator certificate, whether that was the full course or a previous refresher, and CITB need proof of attendance. Once the certificate has expired the refresher is not an option and the full two day course has to be taken again.

It is shorter, not lighter. CITB expect the same underpinning knowledge from a refresher delegate as from someone on the two day course, so it moves at pace. What it adds is what has changed since you last sat it.

Yes. CITB allow this one in a classroom or by remote delivery and we run both. We will also run it at your own workplace for a group, anywhere in the UK.

No. It renews a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate. No Site Safety Plus course awards a card, and sites normally ask for the certificate alongside the card that matches your role.

The co-ordinator manages the temporary works process and the supervisor oversees the work on the ground. They are separate CITB courses with separate certificates. If your role has changed, tell us and we will point you at the right one.
