EUSR SHEA Gas
The one day health, safety and environmental awareness scheme for people working on operational gas sites. Nine modules, assessed as you go, and five years on the EUSR register rather than three.
About this course
SHEA Gas is the safety passport for operational gas sites. One day, nine modules, and a registration the gas networks and their contractors recognise instead of running a different induction at every site.
It runs longer than the other SHEA schemes for a reason: as well as the general health, safety and environmental awareness, it covers pressure regulating installations and working safely in and around premises, which are specific to gas work.
It is also the SHEA scheme with the longest registration. Five years rather than three, which is worth knowing when you are budgeting renewals across a workforce.
We deliver it in a classroom, live online, and at your own premises for a group.
- Your responsibilities in the workplace, and your employer's
- The effect the work has on the environment and how to limit it
- Identifying risk on an operational site rather than walking past it
- The hazards that come up most, and the controls that go with them
- Occupational health: the things that damage people slowly
- What to do when something goes wrong, and who needs to know
- Highway working and excavations, which is where a lot of the sector's harm happens
- Pressure regulating installations
- Working safely in and around premises
How completing this course helps you
- An EUSR SHEA Gas registration, recorded against you on the EUSR register
- Valid for five years from the date you pass
- The awareness a client site expects before it lets you start work
- One scheme accepted across the sector rather than a different induction at every site
Who should attend?
Anybody working on operational gas sites: network contractors, subcontractors, maintenance and repair crews, and people working in and around gas premises and pressure regulating installations.
Entry requirements. None set by EUSR. The course is taught and assessed in English, so you need a reasonable standard of spoken and written English.

Cards and registration
What the registration gets you, and what it does not
From October 2026 a SHEA registration no longer carries a CSCS card with it automatically. You apply separately for the EUSR card that fits your role, and a 2026 registration sits on an EUSR Utilities card rather than the CSCS Green Labourer card the older 2023 and 2024 registrations came with. If somebody has told you the course gets you a green card, that is why they are out of date.
The registration itself is what a client site checks. It sits on the EUSR register under your name, so a site can verify it rather than take a laminated card at face value.
Renewal is worth diarising. Letting it lapse means starting again rather than topping up.
One day
Classroom, live online, or at your own site for a group.
Assessed as you go
A short multiple choice assessment at the end of each module.
Five years on the register
Then renew. Apply separately for the EUSR card your role needs.
Method of assessment
How SHEA Gas is assessed
EUSR set the assessments and they are taken as you go rather than saved for the end.
One day of training
Delivered in a classroom, live online, or at your own premises for a group. 9 modules across the day.
A short assessment per module
Multiple choice, written by EUSR, taken module by module rather than as one long paper at the end.
Registration
A pass is recorded on the EUSR register and lasts five years.

SHEA Gas FAQs
The general health, safety and environmental awareness is the same. SHEA Gas adds the gas specific content, pressure regulating installations and working in and around premises, which is why it runs to nine modules. It also lasts five years where the water and power schemes last three.
EUSR allow a half day renewal, but only for somebody whose registration is still current. Once it has lapsed you are back to the full day. Given this one runs for five years, that renewal date is easy to lose track of, so it is worth putting in a diary rather than trusting memory.
It lasts five years from the date you pass, and it is recorded on the EUSR register under your name.

A short multiple choice assessment at the end of each module, set by EUSR. There is no single exam at the end of the day.
Yes, at your own premises anywhere in the UK, which for a group is both cheaper and less disruptive than sending people out. Tell us how many and where and we will come back the same working day.
Yes. EUSR allow remote delivery for this scheme, so we run it live online as well as in a classroom. It is the same assessment either way.
