General awareness

General awareness training courses

Short awareness courses that cover the hazards most people meet at work: manual handling, working at height, abrasive wheels, COSHH, confined spaces and the rest. Acadame accredited, run at our centres, live online or at your own site anywhere in the UK.

What awareness training is for

Awareness courses are short, practical sessions for the people doing the work rather than the people managing it. Each one takes a single hazard that turns up on most sites and in most workplaces, explains what the law expects, and shows the controls that keep people safe, so staff can spot a problem and know what to do about it.

Most run in half a day and a few take a full day. They suit new starters, a team moving onto a new type of work, or a refresher when a risk assessment or an incident says one is due. Every course carries an Acadame certificate for your training records, and we run them at our centres in Stoke-on-Trent, Derby, Manchester and Liverpool, or at your own premises anywhere in the UK for a group.

Awareness training is not a licence or a competence ticket. Where a job needs a formal qualification, such as an NPORS card for plant, a first aid certificate or a CITB course, the course page says so and points you to the right one.

Questions about awareness training

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to give adequate health and safety training, and specific regulations such as those on manual handling, work at height and hazardous substances expect people to understand the risks they face. An awareness course is a straightforward way to meet that for the hazards your people meet day to day.

Most run in half a day. CAT and genny cable avoidance, RAMS and health and safety representative training take a full day.

Yes. For a group we run any of these at your site anywhere in the UK, which also lets us use your own equipment and examples. Individuals can join scheduled dates at our centres.

Start with your risk assessment: it should name the hazards your people face and the training that controls them. If you are not sure, tell us the job and we will tell you which course fits, including when the honest answer is none of these.

Awareness training is a legal duty in some cases and good practice in others. If you are not certain what your people need, talk to us before you book.
