About this course
We already run train the trainer courses in manual handling and in slinging and lifting, because those are the two subjects businesses ask us to hand over most often. This page is for everything else.
The idea is simple. Rather than booking a trainer every time you need a subject covered, you have one of your own people trained to deliver it. They get the technical knowledge, the training skills and the material, and after that the course runs on your timetable rather than ours.
It works best where you are training the same thing repeatedly: new starters, shift patterns that never line up, several sites, or a subject where refreshers come round often. It does not work where you are training four people once, and we will say so.

Who should attend?
Employers who train the same subject often enough that buying it in every time has stopped making sense. The person being trained is usually a supervisor, a safety adviser, or somebody who already knows the work and is comfortable in front of a group.
Entry requirements. No teaching qualification is needed. The person does need to be genuinely competent in the subject, because a train the trainer course teaches somebody to teach what they already know rather than teaching them the job.

How it works
From a subject to a trainer, in three steps
Start with the subject and the numbers. How many people, how often, across how many sites. Those three answers usually settle whether this is worth doing before we have talked about anything else.
Then we build the course around the subject. Some subjects have a recognised qualification behind them and some do not, and we will tell you which yours is rather than dressing one up as the other.
Then your trainer delivers it, and we stay reachable. The most useful thing we do after a train the trainer course is answer the awkward question somebody got asked in week three.

How a train the trainer course is assessed
The shape is the same whatever the subject, because what is being assessed is the teaching rather than the topic.
Plan a session
Your trainer writes the session and action plans for a real session they will deliver in your business, not a worked example of ours.
Deliver a micro teach
They deliver a short session to the group and take the questions. This is where it becomes obvious whether somebody can teach it, and it is the point of the day.
Certificate and material
A train the trainer certificate for the subject, and the material to go and run it.

Train the Trainer FAQs
We run manual handling and slinging and lifting as standard. Beyond those, tell us the subject and we will tell you honestly whether we can build it, whether there is a recognised qualification you would be better off with, or whether you are better buying the training in.
No. These courses include the teaching skills. If they are going to train across several subjects rather than one, the Level 3 Award in Education and Training is worth considering, and plenty of people take it afterwards.
Roughly, when you are training the same subject often enough that the trainer fees and the diary juggling start to hurt. Shift patterns and multiple sites push it in that direction too. If you are training a handful of people once, it will not pay and we will say so.
Usually at your own premises, because your trainer learns to deliver it in the room they will actually be using, with your equipment and your tasks. We can run it at our centres instead if that suits better.
