EUSR National Water Hygiene

It is the EUSR registration for people who enter clean water sites or carry out restricted operations within the clean water network. It confirms the holder has completed approved National Water Hygiene training, and it is what a water company checks before granting access.

Water company employees, contractors and subcontractors, Self-Lay Organisation operatives, and anyone else working on clean water infrastructure or accessing restricted clean water sites. It is not limited to people directly employed by the water companies.

Work that could affect water quality. In practice that means tasks on water treatment works, service reservoirs, pumping stations, wells, springs, boreholes, water mains and service pipes.

Half a day. It is built to get a team compliant with as little disruption as possible, which is why most employers run it onsite in a single morning.

A multiple choice paper at the end of the session, together with a health screening questionnaire. You are also expected to take an active part during the training.

Three years. There is no separate refresher course: when the registration expires you sit National Water Hygiene again.

Yes. We run it at employers' own premises anywhere in the country, which is usually the cheapest way to get a whole team registered at once.

No. National Water Hygiene protects the water supply and is about contamination. SHEA Water is the safety, health and environmental awareness passport for the water utilities. Many water contracts expect both.

Because contaminating a drinking water supply is quick to do, slow to fix and lands on the consumer. The training is the water industry's way of making sure everyone who gets near a clean water asset understands the standard expected of them.
