The NPORS N016 Excavator Micro 360° qualification is designed to provide operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for the safe and efficient operation of micro 360° excavators up to 1 tonne. This comprehensive course covers key areas such as understanding industry hazards, adhering to health and safety legislation, conducting pre-operational checks, and mastering machine controls and functions. Delegates will also learn about environmental considerations, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and procedures for machine transportation and storage. Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS operator card, valid for up to five years, demonstrating their competence and commitment to maintaining high safety standards in excavation operations.
Understand industry hazards and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, LOLER, CDM, and other relevant legislation.
Familiarise with the manufacturer’s handbook, locating and identifying major components and key controls of the micro excavator, and understanding their functions.
Identify and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for micro excavator use, including safety boots, ear defenders, eye protection, dust masks, gloves, overalls, and hard hats.
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements, ensuring the machine is safe and ready for use.
Safely mount and dismount the machine, start and stop the engine, and safely move the machine off and stop it safely.
Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area, ensuring a safe working environment.
Maneuver the machine to the work area and correctly configure it in readiness to carry out excavating tasks.
Carry out excavating tasks, including digging trenches with vertical ends and backfilling.
Load material onto transporting vehicles or into containers.
Reinstate excavation, grade, and level ground.
Fit and remove attachments.
Carry out all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures, ensuring the machine is safely stored and secured.
The method of assessment is a three-step journey:
A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.
Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the tool, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.
Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
