Your legal duty
The law behind driver safety training
Driving for work sits inside health and safety law. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 requires employers to ensure the health and safety of employees at work so far as is reasonably practicable, and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require the risks to be assessed, including the risks of work-related road journeys.
Road traffic law applies alongside it rather than instead of it. The Road Traffic Act 1988 governs the driving itself; the health and safety duties govern how the employer plans, schedules and equips the work that produces the journey.

Employees using their own vehicles for work journeys. Those journeys are still work, and the employer still has duties: checking licence, insurance and roadworthiness.
