Your legal duty
The law behind accident investigation for schools training
The duty to investigate comes from the requirement to assess risk and keep assessments under review, under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, with the general duties in the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 behind it, including section 3, which covers pupils.
Reporting is more specific. RIDDOR applies to schools and includes reportable incidents involving people who are not at work, such as pupils, where the incident arises out of or in connection with work. Which pupil incidents are reportable is a point worth checking carefully, and the course covers the framework.
