Martyn’s Law Training For Standard Duty Premises, Terrorism Preparedness And Public Protection Compliance
The NEBOSH National Certificate in Protecting Standard Duty Premises from Terrorism is a specialist qualification designed for health and safety professionals and other workers involved in managing premises that fall within the standard duty requirements of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law. NEBOSH explains that standard tier premises are certain publicly accessible premises where it is reasonable to expect between 200 and 799 people may be present at the same time.
This course gives candidates a practical understanding of terrorism-related risk in publicly accessible places and helps organisations develop a more informed and proportionate approach to compliance. The qualification covers the nature of terrorism and the legal framework, identifying and monitoring potential threats, understanding terrorist threats and site vulnerabilities, implementing public protection procedures, and developing a strong security culture.
It is particularly relevant for those responsible for venues, public-facing buildings, visitor attractions, hospitality spaces, community settings, and other premises that may fall within the scope of Martyn’s Law. NEBOSH states that the qualification is intended for health and safety professionals and other workers involved in managing standard duty premises, rather than security professionals or SHE practitioners with extensive operational experience of managing security and the threat of terrorism.
For many organisations, this course provides a strong foundation in terrorism awareness training, premises security awareness, public protection procedures, and protective security thinking. It also supports the application of familiar occupational safety and health principles such as risk assessment, reasonable practicability, and coordinated action between duty holders. Acadame can discuss delivery in Stoke, Derby, Manchester, and Liverpool, onsite nationwide, and through our managed service partner network for employers looking for local options.
The programme is based on 6 taught hours plus 0.5 hours for assessment, making it a compact but highly relevant qualification for organisations that need to understand the standard duty requirements of Martyn’s Law.
If your premises or events fall into the enhanced duty threshold, the NEBOSH National Certificate in Protecting Enhanced Duty Premises and Events from Terrorism may be the better fit.
