Cards and qualifications
SSSTS, and how the gold CSCS Supervisor card actually works
SSSTS does not award a CSCS card. It is a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years, and it is evidence of supervisor safety training rather than evidence of occupational competence. No Site Safety Plus course awards a card.
Sites ask for it all the same, and most ask for both. Principal contractors routinely write SSSTS into the site rules for anyone running a gang, alongside the card that matches the role, which is why supervisors end up carrying the certificate and the card together.
The gold Supervisor card comes from a construction related supervisory or technical NVQ at Level 3 or 4, plus a pass in the CITB Specialist Supervisor health, safety and environment test. We deliver the course and the NVQ, so the two can be planned together rather than a year apart.
Get the certificate the site is asking for
Two days, in the classroom or live online. SSSTS is valid for five years and a one day refresher keeps it current.
Start the NVQ while you carry on working
A Level 3 or 4 supervisory NVQ is assessed on the job. No exams and no day release. Your assessor comes to you and builds the evidence around work you are already doing.
Sit the specialist test
The CITB Specialist Supervisor health, safety and environment test, which is the one CSCS need for this card rather than the operatives test.
Apply for the gold card
With the NVQ and the specialist test in hand, apply to CSCS. The gold Supervisor card runs for five years.
Method of assessment
How SSSTS is assessed
There is an assessment. CITB set it for every Site Safety Plus course and it is taken during or at the end of the course.
Take part in full
CITB require full attendance across the 2 days before the assessment can be taken.
Assessment
CITB standard GET0040, Health and Safety in Construction Site Supervision (SSP). An end of course practical assessment or knowledge test that measures the learning outcomes, with a pass or fail criteria.
Certificate
A CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, valid for five years. Renew before it expires or the full course has to be taken again. CITB grant Grant Tier 2, 15 learning hours, standard GET0040.

Prices are per person and exclude VAT. Nothing here has to be booked online: call 0330 124 2165 or email hello@acadame.co.uk and we will book you on, or put a date on to suit you.
Nothing matches that. Clear the filters, or tell us what you are after and we will point you at it: 0330 124 2165 or hello@acadame.co.uk.
Everything we run is on this page, whether or not a date is showing. Where a course is scheduled, open the availability column to see the dates, the centre, the price and how many places are left. Where nothing is scheduled it only means nobody has asked yet: tell us the course and the numbers and we will put a date on, here or at your place.

SSSTS FAQs
No. SSSTS is a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate, not a card. The gold Supervisor card is issued against a construction related supervisory or technical NVQ at Level 3 or 4, together with a pass in the CITB Specialist Supervisor health, safety and environment test. Sites often want both, which is why they are usually done together.
Because it is the training the industry recognises for someone supervising work. Principal contractors write it into site rules alongside the card that matches the role. The card says what you are qualified to do. The certificate says your supervisor safety training is current.
Five years. A one day SSSTS refresher taken before it expires keeps it running for another five. Let it lapse and the full two day course has to be taken again.
Yes, and that is how it is designed. A supervisory NVQ is assessed on site around the work you already do, so there is no day release and no written exam.
The CITB Specialist Supervisor test, not the operatives test. CSCS need a pass from within the last two years at the point you apply.
