Great course to have a qualification…

Great course to have a qualification for and presented by a knowledgeable trainer-Allan was great and it was a pleasure to meet him. The venue was a good location with plenty of parking and lovely staff who work there. The room smelt lovely too! Nice that refreshments were provided alongside a mini fridge. 😊

Handling High Winds and Wet Surfaces: Reducing Seasonal Hazards

Handling High Winds and Wet Surfaces: Reducing Seasonal Hazards

As autumn continues, wet and windy conditions become the norm, posing increased risks for those working outdoors. High winds can cause loose materials to become hazardous projectiles, while wet surfaces elevate the risk of slips, trips, and falls. With proper preparation and vigilance, these hazards can be mitigated.

The Impact of High Winds High winds pose numerous dangers, particularly on construction sites where loose materials or scaffolding may become unstable. Here’s how to reduce the risks:

  • Secure Loose Items: Ensure all tools, materials, and scaffolding are securely fastened, especially when not in use.
  • Adjust Work Plans: On particularly windy days, consider delaying high-risk tasks such as working at height or with heavy machinery.
  • Temporary Wind Barriers: Erecting barriers or shelters in areas prone to gusts can help protect workers and equipment from wind-related hazards.

The Challenges of Wet Surfaces Wet surfaces can quickly lead to accidents if not managed properly. Here’s how to maintain safer workspaces during the rainy season:

  • Anti-Slip Mats and Grating: Use slip-resistant materials on walkways, particularly in high-traffic areas.
  • Clear Pathways: Regularly inspect and clear pathways of debris, mud, and water to reduce slip risks.
  • Proper Footwear: Encourage workers to wear waterproof, anti-slip boots designed for wet conditions.

Training Your Team It’s important to keep your workforce updated on best practices for working in challenging conditions. Investing in training, such as confined space training or working at height, can prepare your team to better handle adverse conditions.

At Acadame, we offer courses that help employees learn how to manage their safety in unpredictable environments. Explore our working at height courses to ensure your team is prepared.
