This qualification is aimed at those who have responsibility for carrying out construction-related maintenance work in the workplace.

Description

Because of the wide range of construction-related maintenance work it is not expected that all candidates will carry out the same activities; the qualification is structured to ensure that there is a high degree of flexibility within the units available, there are 8 pathways to cover a range of maintenance tasks that come under the following broad headings: carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plumbing, external drainage, tiling, plastering, roofing and trowel operations.

Qualification Breakdown

Candidates must complete all mandatory units, a minimum of 8 credits from optional group B and a minimum of 54 credits from group C1-C8.

Mandatory Units

  • Confirming Work Activities and Resources for an Occupational Work Area in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace

Optional Units

A minimum of 8 credits must be achieved:

  • Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace (8)
  • Establishing Work Area Protection and Safety in the Workplace (10)
  • Providing and Monitoring Construction-Related Customer Service in the Workplace (8)
  • Clearing the Site and Handing Over on Completion in the Workplace (12)

 

Pathway 1

Group C1 – Maintenance Carpentry and Joinery (if chosen a minimum of 26 credits must be achieved)

  • Maintaining Non-Structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace (14)
  • Maintaining Non-Structural or Structural Components in the Workplace (29)
  • Repairing, Replacing and Renewing Gates, Posts and Fencing in the Workplace (14)
  • Replacing Glazing to Windows and Doors in the Workplace (12)

 

Pathway 2

Group C2 – Maintenance Painting and Decorating (if chosen a minimum of 30 credits must be achieved)

  • Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace (22)
  • Hanging Standard Paper Wall Coverings in the Workplace (26)
  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Tiling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace (8)

Pathway 3

Group C3 – Maintenance Plumbing (if chosen a minimum of 16 credits must be achieved)

  • Installing Basic Plumbing in the Workplace (16)

Pathway 4

Group C4 – Maintenance External Drainage (if chosen a minimum of 19 credits must be achieved)

  • Installing Drainage in the Workplace (19)

Pathway 5

Group C5 – Maintenance Tiling (if chosen a minimum of 21 credits must be achieved)

  • Tiling Wall and Floor Surfaces in the Workplace (13)
  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Tiling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace (8)
  • Removing and Renewing Floor Screeds in the Workplace (18)

Pathway 6

Group C6 – Maintenance Plastering (if chosen a minimum of 30 credits must be achieved)

  • Preparing Background Surfaces for Plasterwork in the Workplace (12)
  • Applying Finishing Plaster to Background Surfaces in the Workplace (18)

Pathway 7

Group C7 – Maintenance Roofing (if chosen a minimum of 30 credits must be achieved)

  • Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing in the Workplace (14)
  • Repairing Roof Sheeting and Cladding Systems in the Workplace (20)
  • Repairing and Maintaining Built Up Bituminous Roofing in the Workplace (16)
  • Removing and Repairing Eaves and Verge Finishings in the Workplace (16)

Pathway 8

Group C8 – Maintenance Trowel Operations (if chosen a minimum of 18 credits must be achieved)

  • Repairing and Maintaining Masonry Structures in the Workplace (22)
  • Repairing Basic Stonemasonry Structures in the Workplace (19)
