The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award is ideal for anyone who needs to understand health and safety principles as part of their role. It’s particularly valuable for team leaders and supervisors, HR professionals, and facilities managers who need to recognise hazards, support safe working, and contribute to workplace improvement.

Description

The NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work Award is a practical qualification for people who need a clear understanding of health and safety principles as part of their job. It is especially suited to team leaders and supervisorsHR professionals, and facilities managers who play a part in keeping people safe, supporting compliance, and improving standards in the workplace.

Over three structured learning days, you will build confidence in understanding why health and safety matters, including moral, legal, and financial reasons for managing risk. You will also learn how health and safety is managed in practice, including leadership, communication, consultation, monitoring, and continual improvement using the Plan-Do-Check-Act approach.

A major focus is on recognising and controlling common workplace hazards such as slips and trips, fire, electricity, manual handling, hazardous substances, stress, violence and aggression, display screen equipment, noise and vibration, work equipment, work at height, and workplace transport.

You will also develop essential prevention skills, including workplace inspections, practical risk assessment, and learning from incidents through a simple investigation approach.

The course finishes with preparation for the practical assessment: a workplace health and safety review, where you apply what you’ve learned to your own workplace environment.

You describe your workplace and work activities so the assessor can judge relevance and realism.

Step 2: Management and Processes Review
You review how health and safety is managed in your workplace, identify current practices, suggest improvements, and link these to the Plan-Do-Check-Act model.

Step 3: Issues and Actions Review
You identify at least ten health and safety issues across a minimum of five hazard types, describe existing controls, suggest additional controls, and justify one priority issue using moral, legal, and financial reasons.

The assessment is internally marked, externally moderated by NEBOSH, and marked out of 60, with a pass mark of 45 (75%)
