About Course

Information, instruction and training for asbestos awareness is intended to give workers and supervisors the information they need to avoid work that may disturb asbestos during any normal work which could disturb the fabric of a building, or other item which might contain asbestos.

Have an increased awareness of the nature and properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke.

We also offer this training in Manchester and Liverpool.

How Completing This Course Will Help You:

Supervisors and trades personnel, including trainees such as but not limited to: demolition workers, construction workers, general maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, painters and decorators, joiners, plasterers, roofers, heating and ventilation engineers, telecommunication engineers, fire and burglar alarm installers, computer installers, architects, building surveyors, shopfitters and other such professionals.

Course Content
  • Types and properties of asbestos minerals.
  • The risks to and effects of health caused by exposure to asbestos.
  • Increased risks from smoking.
  • General epidemiology and statistics.
  • Types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and
  • ACMs in buildings and plant and be in a position to
  • The risks of fibre release from asbestos coatings, insulation, asbestos insulating board, asbestos cement and other asbestos containing materials
  • Awareness of how they would find information about the presence of asbestos before starting work;
  • General emergency arrangements to be used in the event that asbestos or ACMs are discovered or disturbed during the course of works.
  • Where asbestos legislation fits in the wider context of health and safety legislation
  • Legislation governing asbestos and work with asbestos, particularly regulations 5 and 6 of CAR;
  • Outline the basic framework (Regulation 4) for managing ACMs
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a one-step journey:

Attainment of the learning outcome for the UKATA Asbestos Awareness qualification will assessed by a multiple choice examination consisting of at least 15 questions under exam conditions.
