About the NPORS N030 Machine Control System

The NPORS N030 Machine Control Systems course is designed to provide operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate machinery equipped with advanced control systems. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on training, participants will learn to conduct system self-checks, understand various machine control systems, and perform safe manoeuvring and load handling tasks. The course also covers relevant legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, and LOLER regulations. Upon successful completion, candidates will be equipped to operate machinery with control systems competently and in compliance with industry standards.

  • Understand the industry, associated hazards, and operator responsibilities.
  • Explain the different types of machine control systems and their applications.
  • Gain knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the relevant machine control system.
  • Conduct system self-checks at start-up in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
  • Understand daily, monthly, and yearly checks, including diagnostic function tests.
  • Interpret system messages during operation.
  • Utilise key overrides and understand the functions of supervisor keys.
  • Identify and use the display module and relevant functions specific to the model/device.
  • Navigate top menus, sub-menus, and tool/product selection menus where applicable.
  • Demonstrate how the machine control system manages operational limits, including safe working loads, stability indicators, and virtual wall restrictions.
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a three-step journey:

A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.

Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the tool, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.

Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
