This comprehensive course covers key areas such as understanding industry hazards, adhering to health and safety legislation, conducting pre-operational checks, and mastering machine controls and functions. Delegates will also learn about environmental considerations, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and procedures for machine transportation and storage. Course Content
  • Understand the industry, associated hazards, and operator responsibilities under health and safety legislation.
  • Develop proficiency in using the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine.
  • Identify and explain the functions of major components and controls of the log handler.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine, adhering to recommended procedures.
  • Start and stop the engine, and safely move the machine off and stop it safely.
  • Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure it in readiness to carry out all tasks.
  • Carry out stacking/destacking tasks, load/unload logs onto transporting vehicles, fit and remove attachments, and perform end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a three-step journey:

A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.

Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the tool, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.

Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
