About the NPORS N119 Mast Climber

The NPORS N119 Mast Climber course is designed to equip operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate mast climbing work platforms. This comprehensive training programme combines theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises, covering key areas such as pre-operational checks, safe erection and dismantling procedures, emergency lowering functions, and adherence to relevant legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, and LOLER regulations. Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS-accredited certification, valid for five years, demonstrating their competence and commitment to industry standards.

Course Content
  • Understanding the construction industry, associated hazards, and operator responsibilities.
  • Gaining knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook, relevant regulations, and legislation.
  • Identifying major components of the machine and explaining their functions.
  • Conducting pre-operational checks in line with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
  • Erecting the mast climber as per manufacturer’s instructions, considering ground pressures and securing methods.
  • Checking all emergency lowering functions.
  • Safely mounting and dismounting the machine.
  • Configuring the machine for safe access on level ground in open and confined areas.
  • Conducting necessary safety checks at the work area, including overhead and underground hazards.
  • Carrying out accessing tasks at various points up to full operating height.
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a three-step journey:

A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.

Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the tool, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.

Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
