Course Content
  • Gain a foundational understanding of the bench saw operation industry, associated hazards, and the responsibilities of an operator.

  • Develop proficiency in using the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific bench saw, ensuring adherence to operational guidelines.

  • Identify and explain the functions of major bench saw components and controls, including cutting systems, power units, and safety mechanisms.

  • Conduct thorough pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements to ensure machine readiness.

  • Select appropriate bench saw types relative to specific work tasks and environments, considering power sources and operational needs. 

  • Recognise and maintain suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) for bench saw use, including safety boots, eye protection, and dust masks.

  • Perform necessary safety checks at the work area, such as identifying hazards, setting up exclusion zones, and ensuring site safety.

  • Execute proper end-of-shift and shutdown procedures, including safe storage and transport of the bench saw and disposal of trimmed materials.

The method of assessment is a three-step journey:

A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.

Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the bench saw, including pre-operational checks and performing cutting tasks.

Candidates will showcase proper shutdown and equipment storage techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
