The NPORS N608b All-Terrain Vehicle (Sit-In) course is designed to provide operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate sit-in ATVs across various terrains. This comprehensive training covers pre-operational checks, identification of key controls, safe driving techniques, and the correct procedures for towing and transporting loads. Emphasis is placed on understanding the manufacturer’s guidelines, adhering to health and safety regulations, and recognising environmental considerations. Understand the key responsibilities of an ATV operator and common industry hazards
Use the manufacturer’s handbook to identify and apply safe operating practices
Locate and explain the function of key components and controls on the ATV
Carry out pre-operational and running checks in line with manufacturer and legal requirements
Identify and correctly use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
Assess the work area to ensure it is safe for ATV operation
Prepare, start and operate the ATV safely and effectively in various conditions
Attach and operate trailer implements correctly and safely
Recognise environmental factors and adjust operation to minimise impact
Store and transport implements and attachments using correct procedures
Load and unload the ATV safely onto and from transport vehicles
Perform proper shutdown and end-of-shift checks to ensure vehicle safety and maintenance
The method of assessment is a three-step journey:
A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.
