About the NPORS N722 Material Re-Handler

The NPORS N722 Material Re-Handler 360 course is designed to equip operators with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely and efficiently operate a material re-handler. This comprehensive training programme combines theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises, covering key areas such as pre-operational checks, safe manoeuvring, attachment handling, and adherence to relevant legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, and LOLER regulations. Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS-accredited certification, valid for five years, demonstrating their competence and commitment to industry standards.

  • Industry Awareness: Gain a foundational understanding of the industry, recognising potential hazards and appreciating your responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Machine Familiarity: Learn to locate and identify major components of the machine, including steering, driving, and braking controls, and explain their functions.
  • Safety Procedures: Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements, ensuring the machine's safety and compliance.
  • Operational Skills: Develop the ability to safely mount and dismount the machine, start and stop the engine, and manoeuvre the machine across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
  • Task Execution: Carry out processing tasks, load materials onto transporting vehicles, and fit and remove attachments efficiently.
  • Shutdown Procedures: Perform all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures correctly, ensuring the machine is left in a safe and secure state.
Course Content
  • Understanding the industry, associated hazards, and operator responsibilities.
  • Gaining knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine.
  • Identifying major components of the machine and explaining their functions.
  • Locating and understanding steering, driving, and braking controls.
  • Conducting pre-operational checks in line with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
  • Safely mounting and dismounting the machine.
  • Starting and stopping the engine, and safely moving the machine off and stopping it.
  • Configuring the machine for travel and manoeuvring it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas.
  • Conducting all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Manoeuvring the machine to the work area and correctly configuring it in readiness to carry out processing tasks.
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a three-step journey:

A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.

Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the tool, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.

Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
