  • Gain a foundational understanding of the construction industry, associated hazards, and the responsibilities of a crane/lift supervisor.
  • Learn to locate and identify various types of lifting equipment and accessories, including their basic construction, uses, applications, and functions.
  • Develop skills to interpret and extract information from relevant documentation, such as lift plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Understand and demonstrate diverse communication methods used for lifting purposes, including manual and radio signals.
  • Learn procedures for placing non-serviceable items out-of-service and securing lifting equipment.
  • Understand the function and use of Rated Capacity Indicators (RCIs) and anti-collision systems, and how to utilise the information provided.
  • Learn the requirements for setting up, erecting, levelling, and dismantling various types of lifting equipment and lifts.
  • Understand how to set up exclusion zones, actions required for emergency situations, and identify overhead hazards.
  • Identify potential hazards and unsafe lifting practices through different lifting scenarios.
  • Learn the importance of checking the security of various types of loads and lifting accessories, ensuring load balance and integrity.
  • Develop skills to supervise the movement of loads to different locations using various communication methods.
  • Understand environmental considerations and how external factors can affect the planning of lifting operations.
  • Learn procedures for carrying out “out of service” and securing procedures.
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a three-step journey:

A written assessment covering regulations, machine controls, and operational safety.

Candidates will demonstrate the safe operation of the tool, including pre-operational checks and performing tasks.

Candidates will showcase proper shutdown techniques to ensure safety and compliance.
