About Course

This CITB Leadership & Management course in Developing Yourself as a Team Leader was developed by the construction specialists Acadame.

Delivered at our centre in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, virtually online or on-site; the purpose of this standard is to enable the delegate to develop knowledge and understanding of the role and responsibilities of a team leader and be able to improve personal performance:

  • roles and responsibilities of the team leader
  • seeking feedback on workplace performance to identify strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement

Leadership and management are key skills for all construction sites and an area where the industry has identified a need for greater support and training.

How Completing This Course Will Help You:

  • explain the limits of the team leader’s authority and their accountability with an explanation of what, when and how matters would need to be referred to a higher authority
  • describe an example situation where they would need to refer to someone with senior authority, explaining why this is beyond the responsibility of a team leader and would therefore need to be referred to a senior authority
  •

Assessment of this learning outcome must be via a scenario based practical exercise followed by a professional discussion which covers the delegates ability to:

    • comprehensive and/or detailed feedback on own performance is gathered
    • feedback is gathered from many sources and/or a wide variety of sources
  • interpret the feedback and list areas for improvement with clear links back to the feedback
    • A full, detailed interpretation of the gathered feedback is conducted
    • There is an explicit link between the feedback and the identification of the areas for improvement, providing a clear reason for the latter
    • The areas for improvement are comprehensive and/or detailed and their potential for development is described
  • prepare an action plan to address weaknesses and improve performance
    • There is an explicit linkage between the previous interpretation of feedback and the resulting action plan to address the identified weaknesses, providing a clear reason for the latter
    • The prepared action plan is comprehensive and detailed, complete with objectives, time scale, etc and additionally shows awareness of resource issues and review
    • The action plan addresses the weaknesses in a way that has the potential for a significant improvement in performance
Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a one-step journey:

The method of formal assessment for this standard is by a combination of a question paper and a professional discussion.

The question paper consists of 4 questions based on one question per assessment criteria point within the first learning outcome with a bank of 2 sets of question papers. Delegates must achieve 75% correct answers to pass.

The second learning outcome should be assessed by a scenario based practical exercise followed by a professional discussion where the delegate must demonstrate competence of all assessment criteria points.
