Learners will also cover the treatment of shock, control of bleeding, and care for minor injuries, ensuring they can provide confident and competent assistance until professional help arrives.

The emergency first aid at work training emphasises real-life scenarios and practical exercises, helping participants to retain skills and build confidence in their ability to act decisively in emergencies. Methods of Assessment

The method of assessment is a two-step journey:

Candidates will be observed to ensure that they can:

  • Conduct a scene survey
  • Conduct a primary survey of a casualty
  • Summon appropriate assistance when necessary
  • Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Demonstrate adult CPR using a manikin
  • Conduct a primary survey of a casualty
  • Identify when to place a casualty into the recovery position
  • Demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position
  • Demonstrate continual monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position
  • Identify when a casualty is choking
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Identify whether external bleeding is life-threatening
  • Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty with external bleeding

The examination consists of 15 multiple-choice questions.

  • The pass mark for this examination is 11 correct answers.
  • There is a maximum time limit of 30 minutes.
