Asbestos awareness training provides workers and supervisors with the necessary knowledge to prevent accidental disturbance of asbestos during tasks that may impact a building’s structure or materials containing asbestos.

We also offer Asbestos Awareness for Groundworkers training in Stoke. Manchester and Liverpool.
Asbestos Awareness for Groundworkers training is essential for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos-containing materials while carrying out groundworks as part of their daily tasks.
This includes site investigation engineers, utility installation and maintenance workers, and groundworks operatives involved in activities such as drilling, manual excavation, fencing installation, site remediation, and waste disposal. Others whose work may disturb asbestos-containing materials, as outlined in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) and JIWG CAR-SOIL 2016, should also receive this training.
The method of assessment is a one-step journey:
The UKATA Asbestos Awareness for Groundworkers course is specialist training designed for operatives and supervisors who may come across asbestos-containing materials during excavation, drilling, or other groundworks. It provides essential knowledge to help prevent accidental disturbance of asbestos and to keep workers safe.
This training is aimed at groundworkers, site investigation engineers, utility installation teams, fencing installers, waste disposal operatives, and anyone else involved in excavation or remediation work. Anyone whose role may disturb asbestos in soil or on construction sites will benefit from completing UKATA Asbestos Awareness for Groundworkers training.
The training is delivered as a half-day classroom session. It provides a thorough introduction to asbestos awareness while allowing operatives to return to site work on the same day.
The course covers the history, types, and uses of asbestos, including its presence in soils and the risks of free fibre contamination. It explains the health effects of asbestos exposure, outlines relevant legislation and safe working practices, and teaches participants how to recognise hidden asbestos-containing materials during groundworks. Emergency procedures and short-term remediation measures are also included.
Participants are assessed through a multiple-choice exam. This ensures that each participant has understood the legal responsibilities and safety principles needed to work confidently in environments where asbestos may be present.
All successful candidates will receive a UKATA Asbestos Awareness for Groundworkers certificate. This certification is valid for twelve months and is widely recognised across the construction, civil engineering, and utilities sectors.
Groundworkers are often at higher risk of disturbing asbestos in soils or buried materials during excavation or installation tasks. Completing the UKATA Asbestos Awareness for Groundworkers training helps operatives understand how to recognise asbestos hazards, comply with regulations, and minimise the risk of dangerous exposure.
Yes, the course can be delivered onsite for groups of up to fifteen participants. This makes it a convenient and cost-effective option for employers who want their teams trained together while remaining compliant with asbestos regulations.
