Description
Because of the wide range of Construction related maintenance work it is not expected that all candidates will carry out the same activities; the qualification is structured to ensure that there is a high degree of flexibility within the units available, there are 6 pathways to cover a range of maintenance tasks that come under the following broad headings; Carpentry and Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Tiling, Plastering, Roofing and Trowel Operations. Candidates must complete at least 2 of these pathways.
Qualification Breakdown
Candidates must complete all 4 Mandatory Units, a minimum of 1 unit from optional Group A and the required units from at least 2 of the Pathways.
Mandatory Units
- Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace (2)
- Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace (3)
- Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace (5)
- Deliver reliable customer service (5)
Optional Units
A minimum of 8 credits:
- Erecting and Dismantling Access/Working Platforms in the Workplace (8)
- Establishing Work Area Protection and Safety in the Workplace (10)
- Clearing the Site and Handing Over on Completion in the Workplace (10)
Pathway 1
Maintenance Carpentry and Joinery (minimum of 30 credits)
- Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace (14)
- Repairing, Replacing and Renewing Gates, Posts and Fencing in the Workplace (16)
- Maintaining non-structural or structural components in the workplace (29)
Pathway 2
Maintenance Painting and Decorating (minimum of 29 credits)
- Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller in the Workplace (22)
- Hanging Standard Paper Wallcoverings in the Workplace (26)
- Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace (7)
Pathway 3
Maintenance Tiling (minimum of 20 credits)
- Tiling Wall and Floor Surfaces in the Workplace (13)
- Preparing Background Surfaces for Plastering, Tiling, Panelling or Painting/Decorating in the Workplace (7)
- Removing and Renewing Floor Screeds in the Workplace (18)
Pathway 4
Maintenance Plastering (minimum of 30 credits)
- Preparing Background Surfaces for Plasterwork in the Workplace (12)
- Applying Finishing Plaster to Background Surfaces in the Workplace (18)
Pathway 5
Maintenance Roofing (minimum of 30 credits)
- Maintaining Slate and Tile Roofing in the Workplace
- Repairing Roof Sheeting and Cladding Systems in the Workplace
- Removing and Repairing Eaves and Verge Finishings in the Workplace
- Repairing membrane roofing systems in the workplace
Pathway 6
Maintenance Trowel Operations (minimum of 19 credits)
- Repairing and Maintaining Masonry Structures in the Workplace
- Repairing Basic Stonemasonry Structures in the Workplace
