The NRSWA Streetworks Operative Reassessment is a comprehensive 2-day training program designed to refresh and reassess the knowledge and skills of individuals who are involved in street works operations. This course covers various aspects of street works, emphasising the safe and efficient execution of tasks within the road network.

Description

Participants will gain practical insights into key areas such as location and avoidance of underground apparatus, signage, lighting, guarding, excavation, and reinstatement of various materials used in the highway.

  1. Location & Avoidance of Underground Apparatus: Participants will learn how to accurately locate and identify underground utilities and apparatus such as gas, water, and electrical lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities.

  2. Signing, Lighting, and Guarding: This module covers the proper procedures for setting up signage, lighting, and guarding to ensure the safety of workers and the public during street works operations. Emphasis is placed on compliance with regulatory standards.

  3. Excavation in the Highway: Participants will gain hands-on experience in the correct methods of excavating the highway, including understanding depth requirements, trench support, and safe practices to prevent damage to existing infrastructure.

  4. Reinstatement & Compaction of Backfill Materials: This section focuses on the proper techniques for backfilling excavations, including compaction methods to ensure the stability and longevity of the reinstated area.

  5. Reinstatement of Sub Base & Road in Non-Bituminous Materials: Participants will learn how to reinstate road surfaces with non-bituminous materials, ensuring that they meet required specifications and provide a durable finish.

  6. Reinstatement of Cold-Lay Bituminous Materials: This module covers the process of reinstating road surfaces with cold-lay bituminous materials, including the correct application and compaction techniques.

  7. Reinstatement of Hot-Lay Bituminous Materials (Subject to Center): Depending on the training centre's capabilities, participants may have the opportunity to learn about the reinstatement of road surfaces using hot-lay bituminous materials, a critical skill for maintaining road quality.

  8. Reinstatement of Concrete Slabs (Subject to Center): If offered by the training centre, this module will teach participants how to reinstate concrete slabs in accordance with industry standards and regulations.

  9. Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways: Participants will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to reinstate modular surfaces and concrete footways, ensuring they are safe, functional, and compliant with standards.

Suitability

You have to be 16 and over to attend an NRSWA course. If you are 16 or 17 you will need written consent from a parent or guardian to attend the course.
