Description
Manual handling is the most commonly reported cause of work-related back, joint and muscle injury in Great Britain, and general operatives in warehousing, logistics, manufacturing and construction carry most of that risk. This 45-minute online course, built from HSE's guidance on the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (L23) and HSE's latest injury statistics, gives operatives the knowledge to protect themselves and the people around them.
Over five short lessons the learner covers what manual handling actually means in law and why it causes so many injuries; the four things that make any lift risky (Task, Individual, Load, Environment) and how to run that check in seconds; the hierarchy of avoiding a lift, using an aid, or getting help, including team handling and safe pushing and pulling; a full demonstration of a two-handed lift broken into plan, lift, and move and place; and the operative's own part in the system of work, when to stop and ask, and why early reporting matters. Every page is narrated with captions and includes an interaction, and each lesson ends with a knowledge check. The course closes with a 12-question assessment drawn from all five lessons (70% to pass, unlimited retakes, results by lesson) and a set of personal commitments recorded with the result.
The course covers the knowledge component of manual handling training. HSE guidance expects practical training where a trainer observes the learner lift; that is delivered separately at the workplace.
