Your legal duty
The law behind coshh awareness in education training
The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 apply to schools as to any other employer. They require you to prevent or adequately control exposure, assess the risk where exposure cannot be prevented, maintain controls, and give employees suitable information, instruction and training.
Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 matters particularly here because it covers people who are not employees. In a school that means pupils. That's why secure storage and controlled access carry more weight than in most workplaces.
